Yamato’s 1/60 VF-0A and QF-2200D-B Ghost Booster

For Macross Zero fans out there, here’s the re-issued 1/60th scale VF-0A.  I really like the look of this fighter because it reminds me so much of the F-14A Tomcat, both in color and style.

The box has no flip-top lid.

This toy comes with a display stand connector piece that holds the gunpod. The connector is so tall you won't be able to use the "claw" part of the Macross display stand.

There’s also the optional QF-2200D-B Ghost Booster, which increases the VF-0A’s firepower and speed.

The VF-0A looks really beefed up with the Ghost Booster attached.

The Ghost Booster attaches to the VF-0A’s top via two small pieces right below the missile launchers.  When you prepare to attach the Ghost Booster, you first remove the two pieces that come with the VF-0A and replace them with two that come with the Ghost Booster and have notches in them.  The Ghost Booster also works with the VF-0S, and has matching white connecting pieces.

How big is the VF-0A?  It’s just as big as the 1/48th-scale VF-1S!

Macross Chronicle featured the VF-0A, VF-0S, and the QF-2200D-B Ghost Booster.

Macross Chronicle Issue 9 has a VF-0S with Ghost Booster on its cover!

Issue 15 has a mechanical sheet for the VF-0S that shows the Ghost Booster and GBP armor.

Issue 28 has a mechanical sheet for the VF-0A.

Issue 31 has a mechnical sheet for the Ghost Booster.

Finally, Issue 34 showcases the VF-0A.

The Ghost Booster makes several appearances in the last episode of Macross Zero.

I like how the artists made the backgrounds really nice with the clouds!

  1. I have both the VF-0A and S. Unfortunately my 0A suffers from the weak shoulder joint problem so I can’t really mess with it as much as I would like. No matter, they are both great looking toys. Did you take the photos for this post? The lighting is great!

  2. I wanna get Shin Kudo’s VF-oA, and used to think to buy this one. Until I found out this one is actually the mass-produce version, not Shin’s. My only option now is to get the bundled version of VF-0a with ghost booster which is Shin’s, and more expensive 😦

  3. Need advise regarding the habit of Yamato’s doing reissue:
Does every reissue offer major improvement compared to the previous version? I noticed that some people are still buying/selling the older version, even when the reissue version’s already out in the market. I mean, if someone’s still buying the older version, perharps they can still ‘live with it’? Let me know what you think.

    • Yes, each reissue fixes some problem. For example, the first reissues fixed the cracked shoulder problem by using a smooth metal pin. The second reissues, like the 1/60 VF-1S TV Version, make it a lot easier to transform to/from battloid mode because of the new crotch latch mechanism. I think it depends how much you intend to transform the valk, and how much you’re willing to spend.

  4. Hii and i see that hlj has this but they are showing the old box, are you thinking that i will get the reissue when buying this orr the original version

  5. Hi ,i’m ck.
1st time login ur blog.i like ur blog also.
but bro, i need ur help after saw ur VF-OA with the macross display stand.
i want to buy the Yamato Macross Display Stand for my VF-OS.but i want my VF-OS tranform in battloid, then fix in the Macross display stand.
So,the display stand work to fix the VF-OS in battloid mode???
Did u try ur VF-OA in battloild then fix in the Macross display stand before??

    • Hi CK, the Yamato display stand won’t work with the VF-0S in battloid mode. The VF-0S comes with two connectors for fighter and gerwalk mode, but not battloid mode. I also looked at the connectors that come with the display stand, and none of them work with the VF-0S in battloid mode.
